Abstract

DRUG UTILISATION REVIEW ON DENGUE IN TERTIARY CARE HOSPITAL

To study about drug utilisation pattern and checking of rationality of prescribing pattern in most prevalent dengue fever. 20 cases were collected from secondary care hospital and data was analysed using SAS 9.2 and rationality was checked by using WHO prescribing indicators in the duration of six months.20 cases of dengue fever were analysed. Males (n=13) were mostly affected. 21-49 age group persons (n=13) were more in number diagnosed with NS1 positive. Fever and pains were observed in most persons (n=20) and they were (n=20) prescribed with antibiotics (Azithromycin) and antipyretics (Paracetamol). Rationality of treatment in dengue is deviating from standard values which are given by WHO.According to our study, we can tell that symptomatic treatment for treating fever, pain and weakness with antipyretics, pain killers and IV fluids was given in initial stage of dengue. Rationality in prescribing in dengue is not up to the mark. There is a need for care full prescribing pattern to improve patient safety
