The hypoglycemic effect of aqueous extract of leaves Syzygium alternifolium (AESA) was evaluated in normal glucose fed and Streptozocin induced diabetic rats. Oral administration of extract (250 and 500mg/kg body wt) for 7 days resulted in a significant reduction in blood glucose level. The effect was compared with 10mg/kg (i.p) glibenclamide.
