Abstract

SEASONAL VARIATION IN HEPATOPROTECTIVE ACTIVITY OF CASSIA ALATA LINN. LEAVES ON ANTITUBERCULAR DRUGS INDUCED HEPATOTOXICITY IN RATS

Cassia alata Linn. is abundant in Sikkim and Darjeeling Himalayas in the middle and upper hill forest up to the height of 2000- 5000 ft. It is a medicinal plant traditionally used to treat a wide range of diseases. Hepatoprotective activity of Cassia alata Linn. has been noted in hepatotoxicity in rats. Seasonal variation in this effect, if any, was studied. Results showed that Cassia alata Linn. leaves during the period May – June had maximum protective effect on anti tubercular drugs induced hepatotoxicity in rats.
