Out of 159 antibiotic prescriptions, 100(62.89%) were male and 59(37.11%) female. The average number of antibiotic per prescription was 1.26 and the average number of drugs per prescription was 2.92. In this study, 60% of patients had received single antibiotic. Ceftriaxone was the most commonly prescribed antibiotic (43.49%). In addition, 43.10% of patients received antibiotics, 74.35% of patients received injectable form of drugs. During hospitalization, majority of the patients have received parenteral preparation and average duration of hospital stay was 4.51 days. Out of 464 drugs prescribed, 409(88.15%) were from the NLEM, 2011 India. Furthermore, 378(81.47%) drugs were prescribed by generic name. The antibiotic use should be done according to WHO guidelines and must be used rationally. Rational prescribing of antibiotics avoids poly pharmacy and prevents antibiotic resistances. Hence, we have attempted to show the current pattern of antimicrobials being used and to promote rational prescribing.
